Taking care of your back:
If you are unable to come along for private lessons, for whatever reason, then you may well find this section useful. I teach this procedure to all my pupils, and practising it every day does make an enormous difference to them. Please note however, that if you are experiencing pain of any sort, you should consult a physician before practising this procedure.

Lying in Semi-supine is a gentle and releasing process that can help with mild pain, and it is also a wonderful exercise for coming to a 'still place'. For letting the trials and tribulations of your day just slip away. The muscles of the neck and back can gently release, and you do not need any special expertise or guidance to do it.
Find a warm and peaceful space on your floor, take a few books (approximately 2" thick) and with them placed under your head, lie on the floor. Please take whatever care necessary for you to gently get yourself onto the floor. Once on your back, raise your knees, and place your feet hip width apart, as illustrated in this diagram. The hands can rest gently on your stomach.
Then you simply focus on letting the floor support you, and let your awareness be present to your physical experience. If your mind wanders, gently bring it back to the experience of lying there. I usually will lie down for 20 minutes a day, but I tell m pupils to lie there until they get to the point they don't mind how long they lie there!
If you have any burning questions I would be more than happy to answer them for you. My number is 01342 825000.
